Going through the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, phrase by phrase and word by word to give attention to the following:
--the Names of God;
--the word & deeds of God;
--the sayings of God;
--the attributes of God;
Too often the churches weakness and the Christians weakness is found in this one sin, 'we do not know God'. We have not studied the Bible, nor Him to learn more of Him. Seeking that this might be a help for myself and others in this pursuit that each of us 'may grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord.
LAMENTATIONS
Chapter 1
1:5 for the Lord hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy. God afflicts people for their transgression; God sees and knows the sins of men;
1:9 O Lord, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified himself. God is prayed unto for help; God is asked to behold and see his afflictions;
1:10 whom Thou didst command that they should not enter into Thy congregation. the Lord commanded; God commanded heathen to not enter into congregation of Israel; God is prayed to that they have entered into His sanctuary; God's congregation;
1:11 see, O Lord, and consider, for I am become vile. God is asked to see, God sees all, Omnipresent/ Omniscient; God is asked to consider these things;
1:12 wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger. God afflicts him; God's fierce anger;
1:13 From above hath He sent fire into my bones and it prevaileth against them: He hath spread a net for my feet, He hath turned me back: He hath made me desolate and faint all the day. God sent fire from above into his bones; God spread net for his feet; God turned him back; God made him desolate and faint;
1:14 The yoke of my transgressions is bound by His hand: they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck: He hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up. 1:15 The Lord hath trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me: He hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the Lord hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, as in a winepress. 1:16 because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me God is the Comforter; God is accused of being far from them;
1:17 Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the Lord hath commanded concerning Jacob, the Lord commanded; God has withdrawn comfort; God commands enemy to encircle and destroy His people;
1:18 The Lord is righteous; for I have rebelled against His commandment: God is righteous; the Lord commanded; God sees and knows those that rebel against His Word and ways;
1:20 Behold, O Lord; for I am in distress: God is prayed to reveal his plight and distress; God is all knowing of these things; Omnipscient; Omnipresent;
1:21 they are glad that Thou hast done it: Thou wilt bring the day that Thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me. God did it, and the enemy rejoices in it; I will's of God to bring the day that He called for upon them; God called for this day to happen;
1:22 Let all their wickedness come before Thee; and do unto them, as Thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: God sees and knows the wickedness of men that comes before Him; God is asked to do unto them, as He did unto Judah; God did these things unto them for all their transgressions;
Chapter 2
2:1 How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in His anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not His footstool in the day of His anger! God covers Zion with cloud of His anger; God's anger; God cast down their beauty from heaven to earth; God accused of not remembers Israel His footstool; God's footstool; God's anger;
2:2 The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, hath not pitied: He hath thrown down in His wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; He hath brought them down to the ground: He hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof; God swallowed all the inhabitants of the land up; God pitied not; God threw them down strongholds in His wrath; God's wrath; God brought them down to the ground in death; God polluted them;
2:3 He hath cut off in His fierce anger all the horn of Israel: He hath drawn back His right hand from before the enemy, and He burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about. God cuts them off in His anger; God's fierce anger; God draws back right hand from enemy; God's right hand; God burned against Jacob like a flaming fire; God devours round about;
2:4 He hath bent His bow like an enemy: He stood with His right hand as an adversary, and slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: He poured out His fury like fire. 2:5 The Lord was as an enemy: He hath swallowed up Israel, He hath swallowed up all her palaces: He hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation. 2:6 And He hath violently taken away His tabernacle, as if it were of a garden: He hath destroyed his places of the assembly: the Lord hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of His anger the king and the priest. God violently took away tabernacle; God destroyed places of assembly; God causes solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten; God despised indignation of His anger king and priests; God's anger;
2:7 The Lord hath cast off his altar, He hath abhorred His sanctuary, He hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the Lord, as in the day of a solemn feast. God casts off altar; God abhorred His sanctuary; God's sanctuary; God gave them up into hand of enemy their palaces; God's house;
2:8 The Lord hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion: He hath stretched out a line, He hath not withdrawn His hand from destroying therefore He made the rampart and the wall to lament; they languished together. God purposed to destroy wall; God stretched out a line to destroy; God did not withdraw His hand from destroying; God made rampart and wall to lament;
2:9 Her gates are sunk into the ground; He hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the Lord. God hath destroyed and sunk her bars; God's prophets; God hat taken away the vision form the Lord; 2:17 The Lord hath done that which He had devised; He hath fulfilled His Word that He had commanded in the days of old: He hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and He hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, He hath set up the horn of thine adversaries. God hath done this; God devised it; God fulfilled His Word that He commadned; the Lord commanded; And God said/spoke; God threw down and did not pity; God did not pity; God caused enemy to rejoice over them; God set up their adversaries over them;
2:18 Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give Thyself no rest; let not the apple of Thine eyes cease. God is cried unto by His people; God is asked to not take rest; God's eye;
2:19 pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands towards Him for the life of thy young children, God's face to be sought by people; God to pleaded with for life of children;
2:20 Behold, O Lord, and consider to whom Thou hast done this. . . . prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord? God is asked to consider to whom He has done this; God did this; God's sanctuary;
2:21 Thou hast slain them in the day of Thine anger, Thou hast killed, and not pitied. God slew them; God's anger; God killed them; God did not pity;
2:22 Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the Lord's anger none escaped nor remained: God called upon this in that day; God's anger did this;
Chapter 3
3:1 by the rod of His wrath. God's wrath laid upon him;
3:2 He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light. God leads; God brought him into darkness;
3:3 Surely against me is HE turned; He turneth His hand against me all the day. God is accused of being turned against him; God is accused of turning His hand against him; God's hand;
3:4 My flesh and my skin hath He made old; He hath broken my bones. God is accused of making him old; God is accused of breaking his bones;
3:5 HE hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail. God is accused of building against him; God is accused of compassing him with gall and travail;
3:6 He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old. God is accused of setting him in dark places;
3:7 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: He hath made my chain heavy. God is accused of hedging him about; God is accused of placing heavy chain upon him;
3:8 also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer. God is accused of shutting out his prayer;
3:9 HE hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, HE hath made my paths crooked. God is accused of inclosing his ways; God is accused of making his paths crooked;
3:10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places. God is accused of lying in wait for him;
3:11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: He hath made me desolate. God turns his ways and pulls him in pieces; God makes him desolate;
3:12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow. God bends His bow and sets a mark for the arrow;
3:13 HE hath caused the arrows of His quiver to enter into my reins. God's arros and quiver enter his reins;
3:15 He hath filled me with bitterness, HE hath made me drunken with wormwood. God fills with bitterness; God made him drunk with wormwood;
3:16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, HE hath covered me with ashes. God is accused of breaking his teeth; God covers with ashes;
3:17 And Thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity. God is accused of removing peace;
3:18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord. God can cause strength and hope to perish;
3:22 IT is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. God's mercies keep us from being consumed; God's compassions fail not;
3:23 They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness. God's faithfulness is great;
3:24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. God is our portion; God is to be hoped in;
3:25 The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. God is good; God is good to those that wait upon Him; God is to be waited for; God is to sought;
3:26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. God is salvation; God is to be waited and hoped for;
3:31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever: I will's of God to not cast off for ever;
3:32 But though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. God causes grief; I will's of God to have compassion; God's mercies;
3:33 For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men. God does not afflict willingly; God does not willingly grieve men;
3:34 To crush under His feet all the prisoners of the earth, God's feet crush prisoners of earth; God's feet;
3:35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High, God' Name - Most High; God's face turn aside right of men;
3:36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not. God approves not of subverting men in their causes;
3:37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not? the Lord commanded; Nothing comes to pass without God saying so;
3:38 Out of the mouth of the most HIgh proceedeth not evil and good? God's Name - most High; God's mouth brings forth good; God's mouth does not bring forth evil and good;
3:40 LEt us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. God is to be turned to;
3:41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God int he heavens. God is in the heavens; God sees those that lift up their hearts unto Him;
3:42 We have transgressed and have rebelled: Thou hast not pardoned. God hears and knows men that confess rightly; God does not pardon all;
3:43 Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: Thou hast slain, Thou hast not pitied. God covers with anger; God persecutes them; God has slain them; God has not pitied them;
3:44 Thou hast covered Thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through. God is accused of covering Himself with a cloud; God covers Himself; God refuses to hear prayer;
3:45 Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse int he midst of the people. God makes them offscouring and refuse;
3:50 Till the Lord look down, and behold from heaven. God looks down; God is in heaven and beholds;
3:55 I called upon Thy Name, O Lord, out of the low dungeon. God's is called upon; God's Name;
3:56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not Thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. God hears the voice of His children calling; God's ear to hear his breathing and his cry; God is asked to do so;
3:57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon Thee: Thou saidst, Fear not. God draws near in the day called upon; God called upon; And God said/spoke; God commands to fear not;
3:58 O Lord, Thou hast pleaded the causes of my sou; Thou hast redeemed my life. God pleads causes of His children; God redeems life;
3:59 O Lord, Thou hast seen my wrong: judge Thou my cause. God sees wrong actions of men; God is asked to judge his cause;
3:60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me. God sees vengeance against His servant; God sees and knows their imaginations against His people;
3:61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O Lord, and all their imaginations against me; God hears their reproach against His servant; God hears and knows their imaginations against His children;
3:63 Behold, their sitting down and their rising up; God is asked to behold their sitting and rising up against him;
3:64 Render unto them a recompence, O Lord, according to the work of their hands. God is asked to render a recompence unto their for the work of their hands;
3:65 Give them sorrow of heart, Thy curse unto them. God is asked to give them sorrow of hear; God is asked to curse them
3:66 Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the Lord. God is asked to persecute and destroy them in His anger; God's anger; God is in the heavens;
Chapter 4
4:11 The Lord hath accomplished His fury; He hath poured out His fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof. God accomplishes His fury; God's fury; God pours out His fierce anger; God's anger; God kindles fire in Zion and it devours foundations;
4:16 The anger of the Lord hath divided them; He will no more regard them: God's anger divides them; I will's of God to no more regard them;
4:20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits, God's anointed, breath was taken;
4:22 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; He will no more carry thee away into captivity: He will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will discover thy sins. I will's of God to no more carry away into captivity; I will's of God to visit iniquity of Edom; I will's of God to discover their sins;
Chapter 5
5:1 Remember O Lord, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach. God is sought and beseeched to remember, to consider and to behold;
5:2 - 15 The prophet lays out the outcome of their reproach that is brought before the Lord to remember and consider and behold;
5:16 woe unto us, that we have sinned. Woe is pronounced upon them for their sin;
5:19 Thou, O Lord remainest for ever; Thy throne from generation to generation. God remains for ever; God's throne
5:20 Wherefore dost Thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time? God is questioned; God is accused of forgetting and forsaking them;
5:21 Turn Thou us unto Thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old. God is asked to turn them unto Him; God is to be turned too; God is asked to renew days as of old;
5:22 But Thou hast utterly rejected us; Thou art very wroth against us. God is accused of utterly rejecting them; God's very wroth against them; God's wrath;
