The great peril of senseless death has occurred in the nation once again. Every so often such tragedy unfolds to remind us of how evil men can be, and how frail our lives are in the moment. Another school shooting occured that took the lives of over two dozen people, most of which children. Surpassing the tragedy of Columbine shooting and coming so recently after a mall shooting of a murder-suicide and a movie theater shooting this past summer. These tragedies are happening so fast and so frequent it is hard to tell how all of it will play out.
Leadrship and authorities are unwilling to acknowledge the root of the problem. Nor are they willing to address what needs to be fixed in our nation. But what I am about to share with you, many of you will grant a hardy, 'Amen'. We know this all to be but one issue in men - that issue is SIN.
Now there is no way to ovecome, defeat or stop sin but the Name of the One Who conquered it, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He is the only help, the only refuge, the only Answer for us today. But to a nation that has sought legally, personally, in family and in every other way to remove Jesus from our land, why would they seek Him now. They want to rule and reign their own life; they are even so gullible and naive to believe that they are in control. But what men have forgotten, is that when you remove God from your life or the life of a nation; then Satan is the one who is ruling and reigning. So that either you are a servant to the Lord God Almighty or a servant to Satan. In such times of tragedy, it is obvious who is ruling, it is the Devil.
Why would we chose, as a nation, to have such an evil, wicked dark soul to rule over us? Because he is the father of lies, and he has sold a lie to people that sin is fun and that we have every right to indulge and enjoy. But he doesn't tell the whole truth: that sin might be fun for a season, but the ultimate fruit and reward is pain and sorrow of hell and the absence of God's mercy, grace and love for eternity. When God's attributes and ways are absent, it is a hopeless situation and life. This is where we are right now in our land. This nation, being as educated as they are, are really stupid and blind to the reality that in removing God, we have believed the lies of Satan and set into motion, Satan's ultimate plan - 'our adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (destroy).' And are we not being destroyed? Are we not be removed from the earth? Not by one's and two's now, but by the dozens. And unless there is a response of repentance by this nation, that will escalate to the 100's and 1000's to die by tragedy and lunacy.
I remember the old preacher shouting it, "Oh, America your too young to die". But dying we are. All because we made a choice, sin over the Savior. Oh, how men love sin, and hate the God Who can deliver from sin. They speak His name in profanity; they curse His book, His people, His house. And all the while the nation continues to slump in disaster, they continue to laugh, jest, enjoy, not knowing that they have signed their death certificate. 'For He Who holds their breath in His hand, is greatly provoked and His wrath is ready to be poured out on them.'
These truths are known. It is has always been this way. Since the Garden of Eden, every empire, nation, kingdom and people have had to make a choice between Who/who will rule and reign over them. and we know the outcome of that throughout histroy, 'Straight is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth to life everlasting; few there be that chose it. But broad is the path and wide is the way that leadeth to destruction; many there be that chose it.' 'Men loved darkenss rather than light.' 'The ways of men are continaully evil.'
But what of God's people, the church? Where are they in all this? What are they doing? As sad and harsh as these earlier words have been, it is much worse for the church. For they are not unknowing, or oblivious to these truths, but they know it. The Bible has declared it, history has preserved its truth and they are to fight from it being repeated and continuing. They are to pray, fight, overcome, cast light into darkness, bind the enemy, tear down his strongholds of evil and fight the good fight of faith. Find a church or Christian that is on guard. Find a watchman that knows the hour. Find a revealer that declares these certainties and prepares the people for these judgements. It is a hard things to find, isn't it?
The church has been manippulated by Satan as well. He has kept them busy, entertained, slothful, slumbering and lukewarm, so that they too was enjoying the days of this earth. And while they was lulled to sleep, they forgot their Lord and King and His business, and allowed the enemy to sneak in unawares and destroy the souls of men. The Scripture was given for instruction, 'set your affections on things above, not on things of this earth.' So that while our affections were poured out for this earth and the things of it, the business and work of the kingdom was greatly halted and left unattended. Thus, allowing for the gates and doors wide open for SAtan and his demonic co-horts to walk right in and capture the lives of countless millions.
The labor of prayer is the greatest weapon of interaction between heaven and earth for the church. The reality of the church's plight in North America is revealed over and over, and we stopped praying a long time ago. Very rare is the church that is actively engaged in prayer for their people, for their community, for their families and for the nation. A prayer time that is composed of 15 mintues of every sick person and condition mentioned and only 3 minutes of praying cannot be considered any where near the norm for prevailing with God. But many a Christian and church will argue that they are praying. Hell laughs and mocks at such attitudes, for they know that so long as their pride is ruling and reigning, they will never humble themselves before the Lord God. And that is exactly what Satan desired all along. He simply wishes to keep us as far away from the Lord as possible. A proud heart, a closed mind and hard heart will not be acceptable to the Lord.
It is enough! isn't it? must it be every first born, as in Egypt, before we wake up and say, 'No more'. Lord, we cry out to You for Your mercy, Your grace, Your Divine Love. We know we have sinned against You in every possible evil way. We have rejected You, dismissed Your Holy Book, dishonored the church from a holy thing to a playground, we have been so disobedient against Your teachings and leadings. We have loved self more than the Savior. We have used our money for our self-indulgences and neglected the work for souls around the world. Our time has been used for this world and we have neglected time with You and for You. OUr hands are filled with blood from the sin of murder in abortions, and the filling of this land with murder and suicides.
These are confessions and each pastor, church and Christian needs to confess. But confession without a changing of our positions, time and energies means that we have not repented. Repentance is a must lest Satan simply continue to rule and reign. A death to self, a death to sin, a death to SAtan is needed in order that we might be alive and obedient to our heavenly Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. He awaits us, but without an acknowledgement of these truths and certainties, we are doomed to continue in this self-destructive pattern. And we continue to see and hear of these things so long as the church continues in its status quo.
A cry, a word, a prayer, brokenness before Him and godly sorrow that works repentance is that mandate. Now you are left to obey and rise up and be doing.
For those that are doing, continue to rise up and take your place on the watchtower. "I will set me upon the watchtower and wait to see what He shall say to me, and what I shall answer". A labor of wrestling with God against the sin, darkness and evil that controls and dictates to men's hearts and minds is what we must pray against. A labor of praying without cesing for God to be glorified and for His hand of mercy to go out to help us. For if His hand of mercy does not go out, then His hand of wrath shall. Let us pray against the darkenss and the lies of Satan that has swept people away from truth. Let the truth go forth, for the truth received shall set us free indeed. Be praying, be on guard, be observing, be wise and be near our Lord. For in such moments, those that He does hear are needed to lift up a prayer unto Him. For these that never prayed, never obedyed, never gave time to Him, how shall they think that becasue its tragedy, that He will hear? Because God says, 'Because you would not draw night to Me, therefore I allowed this tragedy to come upon you.' Give time and place before Him, even now, faithful prayer warrior.
What little time we have left is needed to fulfill our responsbilities that the Lord has been so long in waiting for us to do. Time delayed is time for Satan to continue to destroy and devour.
Enough already. Now do it church. And let us see the favor of the Lord once again.
