A SCRIPTURAL STUDY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

There are numerous refernces to the Spirit in the Bible.  From the reference of the Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost to the spirit of man or the spirit of life, there are over 500 accounts (523).  Also, to be included in this is the KJV use of the HOly Ghost which is counted 89 times.  That is a total over 600 times. 
OUr sole purpose for this writing is to identify the directive of the Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost.  And even though, many scholars, and men flee from the old English, I have no problem with it at all.  We are to examine and apply the use of these verses that draw us to know the Holy Spirit better and more fully. 

Oh, what a need there is today to have the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our personal lives, our family lives, our church lives and moving across the nations. 

The preposition use before the Holy Spirit is our specific target for this listing.  The use of these are a few of our considersations:  'In the Holy Spirit'; 'By the Holy Spirit'; 'Of the Holy Spirit' etc.

IN THE SPIRIT
This is 28 times used.  We will mark the verses that are not in references to the Holy Spirit but only the spirit of man.
-Proverbs 15:4
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit
-Ezekiel 37:1
The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,
- Micah 2:11
If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.


OF THE SPIRIT
This is used 35 times in Scripture.  Again, we will mark the references of our study and negate the others.
- Numbers 11:17
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
- Numbers 11:25
And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
- Deuteronomy 34:9
And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.


BY THE SPIRIT
This is used 16 times in Scripture. 
- 1 Chronicles 28:12
And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:
- Isaiah 4:4
When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.
- Ezekiel 11:24
Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.


FOR THE SPIRIT
This is used 10 times in Scripture.
- Isaiah 57:16
For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.
- Isaiah 61:3
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
- Ezekiel 1:20
Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels.
