THE DAY

The Day

There is this little phrase, that keeps popping up to me in my Bible readings.  I have done other word/phrase studies regarding 'day', titled, 'In That Day'.  and it is pretty much the same meaning and emphasis for us to consider in our own personal walk, as well as seeing and understanding how God worked in other saints.  For if the Lord did here in the Holy Word, then He will do it for us as well.

But this phrase laced throughout Scripture is pointing us to examine, ask and answer the question, 'what about this day?'  What is going to happen today?  What is possible this day?  Is it a day of goodness, or a day of evil?  A day of holiness, or a day of sin? what do you want to do today? What to you need to do today?  So as the verses, the phrase jumped off the page reading through the Scriptures, I feel I must share what the Spirit is saying and pointing out to me.  May it enrich your meditation and give us eyes to see for 'this day'.

I Samuel

In I Samuel there are over 100 times, 'day' is used.  Not all of these are pointed to our study.  But this was definitely the pivotal place that God started revealing this phrase study to me.

 Chapter 1

Chapter 16
16:13, "Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren:  and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.  So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah."
--Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day forward;  What a testimony!  What a life changing moment!  There is a book written of 20 short biographies, 'They Found the Secret'; and it covers their testimony when the Spirit of the Lord came upon them from that day forward.  What a blessing to read of the consistency of God upon His people.  Imparting that which is so needed today, the filling of the Holy Ghost.  we read throughout Acts, 'and they were filled with the Holy Ghost', and it is still the need for our day to advance our Lord's kingdom.

Have you been filled?  Do you mark the day that the Spirit came upon you?  Are you able to say, 'everything changed that day'?

17:10 "And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together."
--Goliath is clamoring for someone to fight.  He is provoking to get them to be mad enough to come out and fight him.  We look at his actions of what is happening 'this day'.  He is defying the Lord God 'this day'.

Are not the enemies of our Lord defying Him each day?  But we cannot change yesterday, and tomorrow is not come; so what will we say about this day?  They, the enemies of our Lord, get up each day and look for the way in which they may defy Him.  They defy Him in their actions, their language, their choices, their lifestyles.

17:46  "This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel."
--two time in this verse David declares, 'this day' is the death of your death;  and God will be shown to all that He is God in Israel.
Goliath and the Philistines are the workers of evil.  The Lord God and the children of Israel stand for good.  and in between lies the battle of all the ages.  Goliath seemingly unstoppable, pulverizing, giant vs. a ruddy, youth David.  What change does this boy have against a seasoned solider?  Ah, the deciding factor is the Lord God.  And 'this day' that shall be demonstrated for His glory.
--1.  This day the Lord will deliver the enemies into our hands.  This is our focus as each day we  being, we know the certainity that our enemy will come.  He comes in so many ways.  Ways that are recogniziable, 'we are not ignorant of his devices'; and he comes in ways that are hidden and unrevealed til its too late.  Oh, for eyes to see and be aware, that 'evil is near'.  In the book of Judges, there is that verse, 'they knew not that evil was near them'.  And when we are distracted, unaware and not paying attention, forgetting that this warfare knows nothing of reprieve, vacations or time off, may we remember, 'this day' the Lord will deliver our enemy into our hand.
--2.  'this day' David will slay and give Goliath to the birds and beasts for supper;  With that promise from the Lord that 'this day' the enemy will be defeated and giving to destruction.  May that be a constant victory and praise to the Lord, 'this day' I fed the enemy to destruction.  Turning back his advancements, overcoming in the blood of the Lamb, and keeping self in its proper place of humility, surrender and dependence upon the Lord.
