THE CUP OF WRATH

THE CUP OF WRATH

Mark 14:36, 'Abba, Father'   Oh, the cry of a Son to His Father.  And a cry from this son in the faith to my Heavenly Father.  'all things are possible unto Thee; take awy this cup from Me:  nevertheless not what I will but what Thou wilt."

Matthew 26:39, "And He went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me:  nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt."
26:42, "He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me, except I drink it, Thy will be done."

Luke 22:42, "Saying, Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me:  nevertheless not My will but Thine, be done."

Revelation 14:8, "And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." - And what do you drink out of?  A Cup.

Revelation 15:1, "And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last palgues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God."
15:7, "And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, Who liveth for ever and ever."
16:19, "And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell:  and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath."

Psalm 11:6
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
Jeremiah 25:15, "For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. v. 16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.  v. 27, Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you."

Matthew 26:27, "And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them. . . "

The cup of wrath vs. the cup of blessings is before us in Scripture.  As so many things are in paradox of the Scriptures, so we see the cup is also.  Everyone wants the cup of Psalm 23, 'my cup runneth over' with blessings.   But very few want to address the cup of wrath upon the nations, upon our nation, upon the church, upon our families, and yea, upon our very loved ones.

The Cup of Wrath

We see the phrase used in both Old Testament and New Testament.  And neither brings joy to our heart, minds or lives.  The cup of wrath we see illustrated for nations, and for individuals.  I can literally see a goblet, being held and each drop that goes into it of a drink, of a liquid, is one drop closer to being full.  And upon that fullness of the cup, it overruns and is poured out.

In Jeremiah we see the Scripture reveal that God makes the nations drink of the cup to internalize their place of receiving of His wrath that is gone out from Him against the wicked and evil.  Oh, how dreadful is the wrath of God.
'It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Lord.'
'There is no peace, saith the Lord, to the wicked.'
'He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:  and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.'

And so we see that God sets Himself against such as chose their ownselves and sin over Him.  And the response from a holy, just God is punishment against such that seek to make themselves god, instead of recognizing Him, as God.  And this punishment comes through judgments, afflictions, curses, that represent a desire for God to receive glory and honor.  If man seeks to rob God of His honor and glory, they literally seek to replace God.  And God respons in fashion to undo this deception and lie and restore the first grace.  If it cannot be restored and redeemed, then it is judged and sentenced to removal from God's presence forever.  Eternity separated from God's mercy and grace; truth and light; love and favvor is Hell.

Hell is not only the punishment of God toward this wicked ones, it is separation from Him.  It is not just the punishment on the soul through weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth; it is also separation from that which is good and right.
