CHRISTIAN LIFE COMMITTEE - WVCSB - FEBRUARY, 2018

February, 2018

Christian Life Committee:

(8) Christian Life Committee. It shall be the responsibility of this committee to study moral, social and cultural conditions of society and bring reports and recommendations to the convention as it may deem advisable. It shall report to the convention leadership current matters of public affairs relating to the realm of Christian life. It shall seek to assist churches and associations in educational programs to inform them of moral issues and Christian citizenship responsibilities.

Issues of our society, of the nature of moral and cultural that are impacted our churches, families and communities.  And even though there are numerous issues to be mentioned, the focus of those that are priority for our present day and future.

Action that I desire to see from this committee and WVCSB leadership is to do the following:
1.  Be made aware of the issues at hand;
2.  Inform of the agendas, votes, and consequences of these issues on our state, counties, communities, churches, families and our own individual selves;
3.  Give instruction for response to these issues;
4.  Follow through with plans of these responses to issues from churches and/or individuals;

1.  DRUGS:
 At the beginning of this century, 1999 into 2000, drug overdose deaths were in the dozens per year.  But over the last 18 years, we have seen the escalation, along with our nation from the dozens, to the 100's, and now approaching 1000's of deaths in our state.  These deaths, impact the state, churches and communities and families deeply.  For the spiritual side we know the reality that most of our state is lost and without Christ.  The drug culture is taking them into eternity faster than we can reach them.  And the greater damage is that there is only signs of increase, not 'leveling off' or decrease in the deaths.

The government is proposing to remedy the drug addictions and overdoses with more drugs.  the church is proposing nothing.

2.  LGBT:
Although President Obama pushed this abomination agenda into our society, schools, and mindset, they was not able to advance legally many of the laws and judicial edicts for their evil agenda.  So they began to take it from the national level to the county and city levels.  They have flooded the city councils and county commissioners with laws that advance the 'bathroom' issue for trasngenders in public and schools.

The marriage issue of DOMA was defeated by the failure of the church to respond.  The issue of marriage is still an issue before us, and more so in the churches.

3.  SEXUAL IMMORALITY:

 --unwed mothers giving birth at 43% in 2015;
--pornography use in society as well as in the church and it detriment to family, individuals;
--divorce and marriages collapse; structure of traditional family is all but extinct;;
--sexual abuse - teacher/student; minors being abducted; sex trade;  parents & family members abusing children, robbing them of innocence, and being naive;

4.   RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

--Supreme Court case is to be read in June of Cake company in Colorado vs. Colorado;  this private business stands upon their right to serve/make a cake for whom they want or don't want, based on their religious beliefs;  They have been sued and are trying to be forced to serve any and all despite their religious convictions.   If they can do this in a private business, they are one step away from doing it to a local church.
--Metro City Church in Riverview, Michigan was hosting a conversation to young people about gender and what the Bible says about it;  The LGBT and state legislators came against the church and its leadership with threats, against the church, the pastors, his family if they did not cease.  This warfare is upon our land, and the church largelly is unaware or unwanting to engage in it.

The Response of the Church:
1.  Pray

2.  Proactive

3.  Unity in its voice and stand;
This will require of us to stand with all the body of Christ, not just our own WVCSB.

4.  Evangelism
I expect lost men to do lost things.  and because the church has all been but extinct in leading men and women to wholly follow Christ, we see the damage from it.  they follow their master, the Devil, and he has sunk our nation in immorality, death and dying and destruction.  Winning them out of darkness into Light, out of hell bound into heaven bound, out of blindness into seeing is the most powerful thing to happen to a state, society, and community.
But we cannot win them on our own means and methods; we must be endued with power from on High.  Led by the Spirit to see them doing 'godly sorrow unto repentance'.  'One sows, another waters, but it is God that gives the increase'.  this is the spiritual awakening that so many are talking about and praying for.  But this will not happen until the church cleanses itself from sin and is filled with the Holy Spirit to labor as He would have us.

5.  Revival
A W Tozer said, 'Revival brings change to the moral temperature of society.  If there is no change in the culture, then there was no revival from God.'
Many are coming to the knowledge that a Divine outpouring of God's Manifest Presence is our only hope.  We have tried humanism, gimmicks, gadgets and gizmos in the church to do what only the Lord can do.  When God's Holy Spirit comes upon the church, they will be cleansed, and empowered.  This will send them out to society, family, communities and see the lost converted.  These moral issues will wash away as the mindset and heart conditions of a state is turned toward God and His ways.  Revival always begins with His church, pulpits and pews.

PRAYER BLOG - FEBRUARY 21, 2018

Greetings,
"Now therefore perform the doing of it;  that as there was a readiness to will so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have."  II Corinthians 8:11

I wonder how often the Spirit inspires a 'will of the Lord' to do, to accomplish some great thing for His kingdom; and how much of that is done and how much is not done?  How often you hear, "I feel the Spirit is telling me to do. . . "; and yet there is no follow up or follow through.  Only in eternity will we know the fulness of this scope of how much was left undone by the church.  So you here you see it, 'Now therefore perform the doing of it'.  That which you willed to do by the inspiration of the Spirit, now do it.  There was a readiness to jump and go, now perform it.  For surely, as quickly as the inspiration came, it will pass; for we are too fickle in our flesh.

Now regarding this truth for our focus in prayer, let us examine it.

'Perform the doing of it. . .''  found as a confession and testimony of many in the church and churches, is this call to pray.  The church is to be a 'house of prayer'.  To perform the doing of it, means, as Samuel Chadwick said, 'A secret of a prayer life is a life that prays'.  David said in the Psalm, 'I give myself unto prayer'.  And the command and example of Christ, of Paul of any of the great saints is that they 'performed the doing of it'.  Not just read about it; not just whimsically particiapte it, not sporadically engage in it; but to perform it by doing it each day.  'Morning and evening' the sacrifice was to be brought, and how much more should the prayer life be brought numerously throughout the day, and the best of each morning and at the close of each day.  Daniel prayed 3 times a day; David wrote in Psalm 119, 'seven times a day do I lift up my praise unto Thee'.  the prayer life is for each of us to examine and make sure that we are just thinking about it, not just talking about it, but doing it.

Too many talk about being 'in prayer', 'praying' but something is missing.  They talk about, they seem to know the truths of it.  But the actual performing  of it is not to be found in faithfulness.  Too many Christians and churches have sporadic prayer times.  This is not 'performing the doing of it'.  all the example of life is found in the day in and day out of doing it.  Athletes training, musicians practicing, workers engaged daily in the performance of their calling and task.  Haphazard and lazy indulgences to pray is not performing of it in acceptance to the Lord.  A confession needs to be redenered by the church for its act of disobedience.

Far too often in our nation and among church and prayer leaders is the widely held moment that after tragedy as occurred, we give ourselves to pray.  I wonder had we been praying more fervently, effectually and urgently before the tragedy how many tragedies would have been averted?

The Lord came and continues to come to His children and His Spirit moves them to be like the Son, like Christ, 'Who makes intercession for the transgressors';  like the Holy Ghost, 'Who maketh groanings which cannot be uttered by men'.  He calls us to pray.  and that Divine birth that draws us out to seek Him, be with Him, speak to Him is a Divine gift to pray.  Many that are men and women of prayer knows this special calling.  Now all the church, all His servants are called to pray, but there are those that like the prophets, like preachers, teachers, etc. that have gifts for His kingdom and they exercise it as such.  These know that God has called them to pray, to be intercessors, to be watchmen on the wall.  This is that 'readiness of will' to do preform it and do it for His Name sake and His kingdom.

Many having this call, knowing these truth profess and confess, 'I know I ought to pray more'; 'I don't have a prayer life';  'I just don't pray as I should'.  Churches and Chjristians that have this 'readiness of will' to do it, but do not perfomr the doing of it, are found guilty of sin. 'For to him that knoweth to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.'  They know, but they don't do it, they/we fail our Lord.  And in a prayer movement today that is so prone to 'pat themselves on the back' that they are praying.  Yet, they have not prevailed in their praying.  How can we celebrate with evil so vile and growing?   Do we not know that the Lord has stirred up His church to pray with this readiness of mind and will to perform the doing of it?

Our resolve must be the performing of it to do it for our time is greatly in need of it.  Far too lng we have gone for decades without prayer that prevails.  Satan has taken the ground, he has destroyed our nation and evil flourishes among these that are bragging that they are praying.  What good does it do to pray, if hell is advancing?  I believe that prayer is to stop the advancement of hell and their agenda.

Let us be resolved that in these days 'we will perform the doing of it' for all things are in jeopardy.  Our very future is on the balance of being destroyed if we do not do the performing of it, so as to prevail.

Prayer Targets:
--police officers shot & killed;  apparently so far this month - 9 have been shot and killed across the US;  that is 1 every 3 days;  This has been and continues to be the upward trend.  Where is the prevailing against this evil?
--school shootings, church shootings, mass shootings - a push right now for guns to be targeted, schools to be safer;  but no voice from the church on the evil that causes men to do this;   And because of this, this evil will continue and increase.  the 17 killed in FL is near record numbers; and no doubt, records of school shootings, church shootings and mass shootings will be broken as time goes on.  all because the evil of men has not be dealt with by the church.
--disease; flue deaths in the 100's;  in Europe a measels outbreak has killed dozens;
--natural disasters;  7.-earthquake last week in Mexico;  a steady 1 a month is the norm for this;  but as we flood here on the east coast, 2/3 of the nation is in drought conditions;
--economy;   fluctuation in the dow;
--War;  I believe war is on our horizon.  We have long been watching North Korea.  but I fear that Syria and all the fall out of so many nations in such a small area, will lead to a world wide conflict this year;   There has been too many numerous incidents, and a major one is all but sure to come.
--drugs; the wretchedness and foolishness of our states is to fight the drug problem with drugs for the sole purpose of money;  death and destruction have been in its wake;
--ISIS & Boko Haran - continued source of hell's weapons causing 'to steal, to kill and to maim' for the regions, churches and humanity;  I marvel that there is no sense of justice or judgement by the ruling nations to end this evil.

Updates:
--bible readings up through Isaiah;
--word/phrase study - T - 80 pages to go;  middle of Ephesians;
--A Word - a better more steady work coming through and nearing completion of Isaiah chapter 50;
--sermons from Sunday uploaded to youtube;   Both sermons were on my focus "PREVAIL";  the sermon at Fox's Hollow was probably my best of presenting this burden the Lord has placed on me;  I was able to relieve the pressure somewhat;
--24/7 prayer times and great need to fight in this spiritual warfare;
--sermons from Sunday services at Keyser and Fox's Hollow are uploaded to my youtube page and broadcast on my ustream account/userpage;
--PREVAIL - this has been my recent focus for weeks; after meditating on it for awhile, now I am writing it out on my blog and preached two sermons Sunday to cover it;  the sermon from Fox's Hollow, has a fuller sermon of my heart on this;

Until,
dan

PREVAIL

Why no revival?
Why, in the midst of increased prayer movements, is evil rising to record heights?
Why no Holy Spirit power in the church?
Why so few victories, deliverances and salvations?

In the following passages of Scripture, it is one word that can undo all the evil and do all for His glory -- it is the word PREVAIL.

Half-heartedness can never obtain what can only be done through whole-hearted efforts.  And in the realm of prayer, 'saying' prayers, or prayers of repetition do not prevail with God.  Prayers of self, prayers sporadic, are no where near spiritual significance of prevailing for prayers of God's heart.  Such prayers that prevail are prayers that are constant, 'without ceasing' and continual.   We must understand that the failure of the church for this age, for this nation, for this time in history is found in this one word, we did not prevail.  The following Scriptures will be a guide, lesson, and leading for us to ponder on what it means to 'prevail with God'.

 PREVAIL - 67 times used in Scripture:
"And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wreslted with my sister, and I have prevailed:  and shall his name Naphtali."  Genesis 30:8

"And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh. . . as he wrestled with him" Genesis 32:25

"And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel:  for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed." Genesis 32:28

"because the famine prevailed over them" Genesis 47:20

"And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him. . . and he prevailed against Chushanrishathaim" Judges 3:10

"And the hand of the children of Israel propsered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan." Judges 4:24

"And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel" Judges 6:2

"Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him" Judges 16:5

"So David prevailed over the Philistine" I Samuel 17:50

"Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so." I Kings 22:22

"Thou art our God, let no man prevail against Thee"  II Chronicles 14:11

"thou hast begun to fall thou shalt not prevail against him" Ester 6:13

"Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail" Psalm 9:19

IN each of these passages of Scriptures, it is a lesson to learn who prevailed or didn't; what prevailed or didn't.  And all of it to be found in this lesson for each of God's children that we prevail in prayer for God's kingdom and glory.  Anything short of this is failure.   Is the church ready to confess before the Lord, that we have failed our Lord in this nation, for our families, and for His church and kingdoms work?   No we are not.  Yet the evidence is stacked against us and we have not prevailed for our Lord.

What evidence is in His court:
--the recent FL school shooting killing 17;  we have known of this evil since 1999 at Columbine, and yet with almost 20 years elapsing this evil surges, there is no prevailing for safety, for deliverance;
--evil multiplies in the headlines, things that have never been thought of, discussed, or imagined, yet it is happening daily;  abuse, neglect, children being robbed of being naive and innocent all the while the church knowing of this in their cities, in their communities, in their churches, yet the number grows;
--souls perish;
--every foundation of society is eroding and crumpling;
--hell advances;
--police officers being gunned down, shot & killed;  and officers shooting innocent people;  an evil that erodes order and unleashes chaos & anarchy;
--the church does far less than what it could or should be doing in reaching the nations and finishing the tasks.

Now the Lord has promised throughout Scripture with the power of prevailing prayer.  In Jeremiah 33:3, 'Call unto Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not."   Is God a liar?  Does He speak half-truths?   No He does not; He speak whole truth.   And if God said it, He is able and willing to do it.   So if God is willing and able to answer, then it must be on how we are calling unto Him.   He wants us to prevail for His Name sake and for His glory.

Yet, when confronted with such a question on the church and the individual Christian of whether they prevail or not, it is met with hostility.   Is it in honesty that answer that questions?  Because the moment that I write this, or ask this question, immediately there is a defensive mechanisms that rises up by church leaders and individuals that they are doing all that they can do.  And that answer, is not answering the question.  What is the question?  Are we prevailing for our Lord?   And we are not prevailing in regards to the lostness, to the evil of our day.

Instances of history where the church did not prevail:
--ISIS;
--aboartion;
--LGBT agenda;
--Germany, HItler and the killing of 11 million in WWII and 6 million Jews;

I.  Let us examine first these that prevailed with God.

I think it to be highly noted of several example in Scripture where it is stated that they prevailed for God, or for the purposes of God.

1.  Jacob prevailed;  As he was alone, and that night he wrestled with the angel for all was hanging in the balances of life and death for his family and for himself.   There wrestling with the angel to extract from him a blessing, a pronuncement of 'You have prevailed'.   And how much more did the angel say this, 'You have prevailed.   Not only with men, but with God'.

2.  Moses prevailed;  The children of Israel was leaving Egypt and headed to the promised land.  Satan uses the vessels of men to attack and do his dirty work for him.  Throughout the old testament we see from Genesis through the times of Dave, the children of Amalek were used as agents for evil.  Here ins this battle they were attacking Israel, God's chosen people.  But the prophet, Moses, was there to safeguard and keep Israel.  To know that the battle is dependent on one man is astonishing!  Do we see that the future of our world, nation, families and churches may depend on us whether or not we prevail?  For Moses was at the center of this.  If his arms were raised there was victory for Joshua and Israel;  but if his hands went down, the Amalekites and evil prevailed.  Aaron and Hur came to help and stay his hands up for victory.  But brethren, how long has our hands been down? how weary have we become?  The enemy has prevailed for the letting down of our hands.

II.  These are the prayers by the saints that cried to God for Him to prevail, and not men, nor Satan.

PRAYER BLOG - FEBRUARY 13, 2018

Greetings,

One word of why revival tarries, why evil is increasing and multiplying and why holiness and power has left the church -- WE HAVE NOT PRAYED SO AS TO PREVAIL.

"the power with God and with men and hast prevailed" - Genesis 32:28
"Moses held up his hand that Israel prevailed, and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed" - Exodus 17:11
"Spirit of God came upon him . . .and he prevailed against them" - Judges 3:10
"Israel prevailed" - Judges 4:24
"Midian prevailed" - Judges 6:2
"Find out where his secret is that we may prevail against him" - Judges 16:5
"I will be lying spirit in their mouths. . . go, thou shalt do it, and prevail" - I Kings 22:22

so much prayer being done last month; many talking about prayer; preaching on prayer; knowing prayer is the answer;  yet, why is evil abounding?  why so many praying for revival, and yet, revival tarries?   Why does the drug evil increase? why does the evil of men increase in our headlines through murder-suicides, mass shootings, homicides, wickedness, etc?

Many a time have I let this thought pass through my mind.  Yet, I did not stop and meditate on it, or contemplate it more or enough.  some part of me is resolved that as Paul writes, 'in the last times things will grow worse and worse'.  Some part of me understanding God's Sovereign Divine will that it is simply not time for revival and evil and wickedness to be put at bay.  Yet, the last couple of weeks, it is has plagued me almost every day with 'why'.

Now this much I know.  God is not the problem!  He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and His attribute of power, saving grace, deliverance, victory and Holy Ghost filled men and women is immutable, and changes not.  so i know that what He has promised, done and willing to do, is still before me/us.  I am able to dismiss this from my mind as an issue.

Therefore, I am settled on me, on these that tout the Christian work of prayer, of the church.  Where are we?  Why is prayer still the same venue by which God works and moves, yet, victories, salvation, revival, deliverance is limited and reserved?  I believe it to be in this one word, we have not PREVAILED.

If we are praying, which the remnant is, and many are calling and having prayer times.   If we are knowledgeable about prayer; and we are, every means and method is out there to teach us on prayer and be in prayer.  If we are doing, then where is the opposite of the equation of Jeremiah 33:3, 'If you call Me, I will answer you'?   We have been calling, but where is the answer?  Now remember, it is not God at fault here.   So it is left on us and how we are calling.  God is more than willing and able to answer.  "nothing is too hard for the Lord".  It has to be in our calling unto Him that is at the issue of failure.  Failure!;  you think that to hard a word to use and portray the Christian church in North America?   We have gone in inches what we should have been doing in miles through prevailing prayer in God.

So let us consider a few of the issues that may be at our failure in how we are not prevailing in our calling unto Him in prayer times.  How often are we calling?  When I ask this or address this, automatically, I get the defensive anger, 'Well, I pray all the time'.  Yet when asked to pray in corporate prayer time, they struggle with 5 or 10 minute praying;  and in praying in rounds they pray 2 or 3 times and they have exhausted all their prayer petitions.   A person that prays all the time should be able to converse with the Lord from His Word of promises, helps, directives, descriptions, worship and confessions for long periods of time.  Not for much speaking and words, but there is so much to bring before Him at any given time.  And that no matter how long we are praying, or coming before Him we can always increase that number.

When Ronnie Floyd became president of the SBC and was introducing the SBC to a lost theme and book of Jonathan Edwards on prayer.  A United Call for Extraordinary Prayer is a shortened version of that title, but the questions left to answer was what I proposed to him, 'what is extraordinary prayer'?   To many it was praying 5 minutes, to another 15 minutes.  But those that pray an 1/2 hour, an hour, this would be praying less.   In giving him this example, exhorted to declare that extraordianry prayer is multiplying our time, efforts and power in prayer.   And that definition was given.  Therefore in order for us to prevail, let us pray daily and several times more a day so as to prevail.

Are we asking amiss? or not praying in faith?  Praying, yes we are; as everyone tells me; "There is more prayer now than ever before".   then why no victories?   Are we not asking for the things of God? for the things directed for us to ask and believe in? And the answer to this is 'No'.  quite the prayer meetings in church, prayer lists, are 90% physical requests.   It is a very rare thing for spiritual requests to be made for salvation's, for kingdom advancement, praying against evil and praying for God's Holy Ghost power.  these are things of the spiritual world to 'war a good warfare' before Him in prevailing prayer.  The balance of prayer is that, yes, there is always physical requests, but too often spiritual requests are never mentioned.   There must be a healthy balance.  Let us not ask amiss of our own mind set and miss the mind set of God.

We ask amiss in often praying for that which God sent, caused and allowed.   Our nation is under remedial judgements for our sin.   the church will spend much time in praying after the tragedies for those affected, and never address why they was affected.  sin caused the judgement, the punishment;  and we are allowed to pray for God to remember mercy in times of His wrath.   Yet, confession is a limited prayer time for many.  They do not know the specific sins of the nation, of the church, of families, and of their own hearts that has provoked the Lord to anger.   They ask amiss by asking God to bless them, help them while the sin still remains.  They do not the Bible account of Israel, Joshua and the sin of Achan.

Humanism is at fault in this not prevailing as well.  We have been taught self power, self ability rather than great faith and humbleness before the Lord.  How often in the prayer meeting, is the humanistic term used in prayer, 'I", and 'we' for our agenda and priority.   When it should be all pointing unto the Lord.  Proper worship of God, in knowing Who He is, elimantes selfish pronouns.  And instead of looking unto God for help and answers, we pray to ease our conscience and do the right thing, but all the while the heart is fixed on 'I will fix this'; 'I have the answer to this'.   Thus unbelief and self grieves and quenches the Holy Spirit from Divine answers to prayer.  The humanistic prayers of men will not prevail before God, for they seek to take what is His', just like the men of Babel.

One last word, (I will be doing a lengthier, posts on this in its entirety under the title PREVAIL), we do not have the spirit of prevail.  I do believe that the discipline of prayer, is languishing.  We do not work do build it in Him and for Him.   It is at our convenience.  If we are to prevail it will be like anything else in this world, it will be by seeking Him in higher places through our abilities and opportunities.   Our hearts and spirits must 'be given to prayer';  Our minds must be affected with His Spirit that quickens us to heavenly, eternal, spiritual things; Our prayers must be His heart and not our hearts; and in these things it will be the spirit as Jacob wrestling with the angel: "I will not let you go, until I obtain it, (until I prevail)".   And then the angel pronounces it, 'You have prevailed, with God and with men".  Resolved brethren, so as to pray until we prevail for everything is found in this.  And our failure to do so, will only allow the evil to increase, and revival to happen in another land, while we are being judged and destroyed.  Which will we have revival or rot?

PRAYER TARGETS:
--flu;  CDC reporting 63 children have died;  not counting adults;  this would put us in the 100's for death by pestilence;
--natural calamity;  it is not estimated that 2/3 of the nation is in drought;  this is being forecast to heighten;   greatly impacting into the spring;
Flooding in and around Ohio Valley;  remedial judgements;
--2 more officers shot and killed in OH, last weekend;  this evil behavior is continuing for every 3 - 5 days in our nation;
--children;  I do not know how many are legit but the posts are every other day for more and more children missing;  whether through running away, or abudciton is unclear;  but needless to say it is increasing;   This is coupled with the neglect and abuse already happening.  suicide by our children in my region is greatly increased.  Fearful of others that hear and see the headlines and will act on it.
--economy;  Dow sunk, but is fluctuating right now up and down for recovery.  This is not the judgement that I believe the Lord will send us.  An utter collapse and upheaval is what foresee;
--drug;  continued use, push, increase, OD's and death;
--teacher/student sex;  Finally after almost a year of each week several cases and reports, there is a lessening of reports of this.
--ISIS & Boko Haran;  they are on the run, and limited, but they are still active and vessels of use for Satan against people and the church;
--LGBT agenda;  abomination of evil that persists, pushes their agenda and is slowly eroding the country into immoral abyss;  romans 1 is happening on our watch, 'God gives them up'

 UPDATES:
 --24/7 prayer times;  this is a spiritual warfare time of prayer that you are being asked to be a part of.  Each and every one is needed daily for 15 minutes to 1 hour to pray so as to prevail.  The evil and spiritual lack in our churches and Christian lives is found in this failure right here.  Please sign up for times to pray with us and for us.    http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090945a4aa2da75-2471
