MAY PRAYER TARGETS - 2016

May, 2016

"But I give myself unto prayer" - Psalm 109:4

 Greetings,
Four months are completing now for our year, 1/3 of it is gone.  How goes it in your prayer times? in your walk with the Lord?  Are you able to say, 'All is well?'  Or are you finding yourself behind, losing ground? Let us turn to the Lord and seek Him while He may be found.  Let us use May as a moment to dig deeper, reap richer and grow in grace and knowledge of Him.

The last several months that I have wrote to encourage prayer targets, I have listed themes to bring before the Lord  Themes that covered our world, nation, state, cities, churches, homes and our own hearts.  Last month, I gave you 3 specific targets of prayer that focused on Worship unto the Lord - Confession of Sins against the Lord - and supplications unto the Lord

For this month let us consider the depth of our praying in our secret closets, family prayer times and corporate church prayer meetings.

In revivals, in days gone by, there was a level of desperation in prayer meetings.  Somebody prevailed in prayer during these prayer times.  It is usually only a few individuals, or a small group; but their level of praying is intense and dogmatic.  The difference in most praying in church and Christians lives is they 'say prayer' or 'pray prayers'; but in revival they pray with urgency, fervency and emergency zeal.

EMERGENCY - URGENCY - FERVENCY

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." - James 5:16

"And he prayer more earnestly" - James 5:17

"And when he dropped dead. . Ah Lord God will you consume all the remnant?" Ezekiel 11:13

"And Jehoshaphat cried out and the Lord helped hi; and God moved the to depart from him." II Chronicles 18:31

"And the father of the child cried out, and said with tears Lord I believe; help thou mine unbelief." - Mark 9:24

Causes that should provoke us to this level of praying:

--satan is destroying our families and homes;
--churches are languishing and in desperate need of the power of God;
--the harvest is minimal and fruit is desperately low;
--answered prayers among the body of Christ is shockingly low;
--drugs are spreading across our nation and communities as the 'death angel' on that night in Egypt where all the first born died;
--elections are this year; and will set the course of our nation for final judgment or an act of mercy by God;
--continued agenda of LGBT is gaining ground;  they will not cease, there is no retreat but a continual barrage to accomplish their purpose;
--the next generation growing up without any knowledge of the Lord;

These actions and reactions happening in our day, should reveal to us the 'handwriting on the wall' for our future.  Without a proper response by the church of emergency, urgency and fervency all will be lost.  The days of being idle or hoping it will all go away is over.  This is for the sake of our future in our day, our children's day and our grandchildren.  When life is desperate it will pray with more zeal.  Without desperation prayer will continue to be the same.

Specific Prayer Requests through May:
--National Day of Prayer;  be a part of this in your area, church life or in Charleston;  May 5;
--SBC convention Tuesday night, a night of prayer;
--restraining prayer against evil in our state;
--prevailing prayer for lost souls and a harvest;
--preventive prayers for Memorial day at the end of the month;  due to the extended holiday for Memorial day there is much sin of alcohol, drugs and foolish choices;  this, over the last years, as always led to tragedies of death and heartache;  prayers in advance can fight for Satan not to have his will done, but our Lord's;

EVIL IN OUR MIDST

Evil in the Midst of our Nation, Homes, Churches and in our Own Hearts

"But they knew not that evil was near them." - Judges 20:34
"For they saw that evil was come upon them." - Judges 20:41
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;" - Romans 1:28

How did we get here?  How did we get to such a time, such a nation such a people filled and practicing such evil, unlike anything which we have heard or seen in our lifetime?  The opening verses should teach us this truth of our reality in United States of America today.

I.  What is the evil in our midst?

Recent reports and activities have shown a consistent state of evil in our land.  It is filled with some of the most horrible, vile, evil works of man.  Here are a few example:
--at least monthly it is reported of the horrible abuse of children under the age of 5 being raped by teenagers and adults;  directly linked to those that are in authority and care of them;
--continued reports and accounts of abuse by authority figures of our children;  Catholic Priests abusing boys;  every week now it seems a teacher in public school having sexual relationships with teenage boys/girls;
--murder of children;  we read where step parents and parents kill their children;
--evil of murder-suicides filling our nation, wide-spread across communities, cities;  Soon it will have impacted every family in some way or another.

II How did we get here?

The two verses in opening give us the directive of how this all materialized and why it is happening on such a wider, faster scale in most recent months.
1.  "They did not know that evil was near them" - the general population perhaps had been suckered punched by the influx of evil.  They didnt' see anything wrong with violent patterns, drug addictions, abusive relationships.  The naïve belief that it was isolated incidents would not impact the whole.  But over due to their inability to see that those initial early steps have led to the full out assault of the evils mentioned above.  The silent, abusive, distorted normalcy of a childhood ravaged by evil means and men has played into this full out society of wickedness.

It may have started with baby steps, but they have grown, matured, deepened and are now running from one place to the next.  None are exempt, all are affected in this hotly pursued avalanche of evil.

2.  In Romans it states that they gave up the knowledge of God.  When that was 'given up', then a void was created.  Every void will be filled with something.  And in this case it was the reprobate mind.  The knowledge of God holds the mind, even in a lost man, do some standard of decency and moral ability.  but erase that knowledge of God, then there is no restraint to the evil that Satan can wield and create in individuals.  Legion becomes the norm, rather than the exception.

III.  Who are the ones doing this evil?

WE would conclude, in general that evil, lost men do these things  However in this present day, where the church has lost its 'straight and narrow' path and is more comfortable with a broader path, we now see it among the church too much.

1 Lost men - My dad always said 'A lost man is capable of doing anything.'  I have always agreed and man have proved that point time and time again  But the difference in our day, of seeing much worser actions and reactions of men must be seen for what it is.  The capability of evil is always present with them.  The practice of it with no restraint is a deadlier scenario.
In the Gospels we see multiple accounts and reports of demon possessed people.  There are men, women, children demon possessed and bringing harm to themselves and others

IV.  What is the needful response?

APRIL PRAYER TARGETS - 2016

April, 2016

"But I give myself unto prayer" - Psalm 109:4

The first 3 months, January - March, prayer targets were assigned to see the needs from world, to nation, to state, to community, to church and our own personal hearts.

Samuel Chadwick - 'The secret of a prayer life is that it is a life of prayer'

For the next few months, let us see more specific needs of worship, confession and supplication

WORSHIP
--list and adore the Names of God;  take time to examine and list the Names found in Scripture;
Robert Murray McCheyne says that there are over 100 Names of Christ found in the Scripture.  How many can you name and give time to adore Him in those Names?
A few of these Names are His Name which HE declares and His attributes:
--Exodus 34:5-  8, 'The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth'  Here we have the Name of God pronounced by Himself, and 5 attributes;
--Psalm 118:28, 'Thou art my God, and I will praise Thee; Thou art my God, I will exalt Thee." - personal praise and worship;

I have around 100 verses of Scripture that gives the Lord's Names and attributes within my prayer notebook.  The Word of God feeds our worship and adoration and praise of Him.

CONFESSION
We do a great disservice to proper prayer when we generalize areas of prayer like worship and confession and supplications.  WE cry out, 'Lord forgive us' and the Lord fires back, 'which sins shall I forgive you?'  'Confess your faults one to another'.  And let our confession be more specific of wherein we have sinned against the Lord.
National sins - forsaken, forgotten Him;  unholy; vile; evil ways;  abortions; legalizing of abominations by our courts and legislatures;  whole families and generational (grandparents, parents and children) neglecting church, God and Word; innocent blood on streets, homes and across our land (Deut. 21:1-9)  no confession the sin remains and provokes the Lord;
Church sins - sin of prayerlessness; lack of faith; neglect of 'studying to shew ourselves approved unto God; forsaking the house of the Lord; silence of speaking His Name to others about eternity;  humanism in our projects; water downed pulpits; no discipleship of spiritual disciplines;
Family Sins - no prayer; no sharing of God's Word; rebellious and unruly children;  parents unequally yoked; neglect of church as family; unholy movies, TV shows; vile social media apps with children/teenagers and adults;  use of money for unneedful things all the while neglecting use of money for our Lord's kingdom;
Personal sins - wherein the Lord reveals and convicts you of that which is offensive to Him;  I John 3:18 - 21;

SUPPLICATIONS
--Specific requests of names of lost souls;
--specific names of sick/tests/cancer etc.
--cry for missionaries by name, region and place;
--prayer for pastors staff teachers etc. of local churches and across our state;
--SBC leadership; convention in June;
--preventive prayers against drug overdoses; murders in public places such as schools, churches, streets and workplaces;  murder-suicides;
--protection of children;  rapid increase across our nation of parents killing their children;  this is coupled with the sexual violation of children;
--deliverance from evil - we may rest and take breaks/vacations, but our enemy does not;  we must continue to labor and 'fight the good fight';  somewhere tonight the enemy is plotting, and arranging for some great disaster and tragedy- our prayers can hinder and prohibit it.

These are a few suggestions and guidance for prayers to go over our churches, communities, nation and our own brethren.  Let us continue to learn, grow and deepen our cries before the Lord.  How precious are the golden censers that offer up the incense of our prayers before us Holy throne.

Direct corporate prayer meetings in small groups, congregational and 'teach us how to pray' Lord.

However, I may be able to help lead, direct or make suggestions for prayer times, please feel free to contact me.
